Vernissage on September 22 at 6pm.
The exhibition takes place on the ground floor of EKKM.
The exhibition is part of the main programme of Tallinn Photomonth ’17 contemporary art biennial.
For the fall semester of Neanderthal Cave School, artists Viktor Gurov, Hedi Jaansoo, Kristel Raesaar and Pire Sova will take up residencies at Contemporary Art of Museum Estonia (EKKM).
The residency-exhibition will reveal the artists’ practices as dynamic processes, in which works and events are just go-betweens or checkpoints.
This autumn, the curriculum will zoom in on the ecology of art – neither separate from the political nor beyond the markets. If the art world is a model of reality, then what kind of reality do our relationships and power trajectories, our institutions and ambitions mirror? Cave School will continue with joint readings, questions, chats, small parties, workshops, guided meditations and walks. Everybody is welcome to the Platform – at a more or less equal level.
Throughout the exhibition, the artists’ studio in EKKM’s exhibition space will be open for hanging out, being together and contributions.
Preceding the Cave School’s autumn semester there will be an event combining a mindfulness session, tea drinking, a temporary exhibition and sound:
23.09. 3–5pm Attendance check: Mindfulness for the Socially Agnostic Artist
Week 1, 26.–30. September: Platforms and Polarity?
30.09. 11am Checkpoint 1: Mindfulness session & chat
Week 2, 3.–7. October: Ethics of the art world?
7.10. 4pm Checkpoint 2: 5-minute-talks & walk
Week 3, 10.–14. October: Collaboration and inclusion
14.10. 4pm Checkpoint 3: Workshop
Week 4, 17.–21. October: Politics of political art?
21.10. 6pm Checkpoint 4: Dinner
Neanderthal Cave School is a self-developing set of experiential projects and durational exercises, shared by artists Pire Sova, Kristel Raesaar, Hedi Jaansoo and Viktor Gurov. Cave School explores the possibilities and limitations of collaboration and trust, without making any claims or offering certain recipes.
